CST-100 Starliner

Commercial Crew Transportation System

The Boeing Crew Space Transportation-100, or CST-100, Starliner spacecraft is being developed in collaboration with NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. The Starliner can transport up to seven passengers or a mix of crew and cargo to low-Earth orbit destinations, including the International Space Station.

Featuring an innovative weldless design and a pressurized vessel that can be reused up to 10 times, the Starliner spacecraft also incorporates Boeing's LED "Sky Lighting" and tablet technology for crew interfaces.

    The two engines that will push the Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 Starliner into orbit using 22,300 pounds of thrust each, putting astronauts on course to the International Space Station, were successfully tested in a vacuum chamber recently. Three NASA astronauts


Commercial crew transportation is critical to the sustainment and utilization of the International Space Station, a unique orbital laboratory that caters to diverse scientific investigations driving discovery on Earth, while providing a technological testbed for future deep space missions. Boeing’s Starliner will provide reliable access to assets in low-Earth orbit, eliminating America’s dependency on foreign launch services. Boeing designed the Starliner to be compatible with a variety of expendable rockets and selected United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V vehicle to launch the initial Starliner test flights and missions.




The Starliner can transport up to seven crew members or a mix of crew and cargo to low-Earth orbit destinations, including the International Space Station.
